Bio Composter Management
Inventory, servicing and compost-cycle information for the city's ward-level bio-composter network.
Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation processes household and bulk wet waste at source using a network of ward-level bio-composter units, cutting transport load on central processing plants and returning usable compost to the community. This module tracks each unit's location, inoculam request and servicing history.
How composting works
Segregate & deposit
Households segregate wet waste and deposit it at the composter unit.
Aerobic decomposition
The inoculum bacteria decompose organic waste through aerobic composting over a period of approximately 20–30 days.
Turning & monitoring
Daily maintenance is carried out at the household level. If any issue is reported, the system automatically triggers an alert and schedules a service visit.
Compost harvest & use
The matured compost is utilized by the household for gardening and other purposes. If the household does not require the compost, they can submit a collection request through the app, and the Corporation will collect it.
- 10,984 composter units are live across all 101 covered wards.
- Each composting unit is geo-tagged and linked to the corresponding household (HH) details for effective monitoring.
- Servicing crews are dispatched on a fixed schedule and on sensor-triggered alerts.
- Finished compost is supplied to municipal parks, nurseries and registered farmers.
- Processing waste at source reduces truck trips to central waste-handling facilities.
Frequently asked questions
It is the corporation's system for tracking the location, condition and servicing status of every ward-level bio-composter unit used to process wet waste in place, rather than trucking it to a central plant.
Segregated wet waste is deposited into the unit, where it undergoes aerobic decomposition over roughly 20–30 days. Fill-level and temperature sensors let maintenance teams schedule turning and servicing without a manual site visit.
Ward-level maintenance crews empanelled by the Corporation provide monthly inoculum supplies and respond promptly to any issues reported by households.

Raise it through the Complaint Redressal page or call the help desk below with the unit's ward number — it is routed to the nearest maintenance crew.
Composting units are installed at registered households across all covered wards. Each registered household is required to use the unit for the segregation and aerobic composting of biodegradable waste at the source.
Call to report a unit issue, request compost, or ask about servicing — available 24×7.
